Calling into Teletel directly with MiniTerm
*******************************************
This program appears to assume you will be accessing Teletel via
a packet switched network like BT's PSS. Thus it uses eight data
bits and no parity as the standard setting. This won't work if
you dial France directly.
The solution is to force Miniterm to use even parity and seven
data bits by using /pe /d7 as a suffix to the MiniTerm command.
Thus write yourself a little batch file which looks like this -
MT /pe /d7
Incidentally once connected you may have to press the F2 key
before you can enter any commands.
If you have a modem which supports V.22 as well as the requisite
V.23 you may have to set up the modem correctly. I used the ATB23
command with the Amstrad Quad modem. Look through your modem
manual and there should be a Hayes command which lets you force
V23 operation. When you find it pick option number 8. Other when
installing MiniTerm using the MTinst command.
Then only other thing you will need to enter is the right number -
010 33 3643 1515. That's the number for Teletel in Paris.
Mind the 'phone bill and keep reading my column in PC Plus!
